Humans of CUC

10 Sep 2025

Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a nurse in the army. But in Year 10, during a week of work experience at a local hospital, my path became clearer.

I spent a day with a physiotherapist and saw not only the skill of the profession but the humanity in it. It fit who I am: someone who values movement, connection, and helping people back to their best.

Sport was also a big part of my life. Playing in teams and working with physiotherapists showed me firsthand how much of a difference good care can make. That experience deepened my belief that this was the career for me.

The road wasn’t simple. My marks weren’t high enough for direct entry, so I took the long way around—studying in a related field first before working my way into physiotherapy.

I’ll never forget the first day of that program: hours of lectures, the weight of imposter syndrome, and the first friend I made deciding to drop out. For a moment, I considered doing the same.

But I stayed.

Those two and a half years were some of the hardest I’ve faced, but also the most rewarding. I made friends who will last a lifetime, and I grew into the work I’d always dreamed of doing. Today, I’m home again, in a supportive clinic I love, grateful I didn’t give in when it felt impossible.

The lesson I carry is simple: sometimes the harder road is the one that makes you. Nothing feels better than proving wrong the people who doubted me along the way.
